"He sniffed and he snorted, until it was sorted" – предложение номер два. Предложение номер два — сложноподчиненное. Простое предложение внутри предложения номер два — until it was sorted. Прямого дополнения нет нигде.
Ну и sorted вроде как функционирует иначе чем чистое превращение sort out + direct object в страдательный залог. Особенно в британском английском. X is sorted — вполне обыкновенно.
