Well, you update it as often as you care, and if it is not updated, they go by the "closest object" that had not been bequeathed separately, which is a no ending source of hilarity in itself. Like, someone bequeathed a flute to his nephew; by the time the will is published, the flute has been sold, so he gets the pipe organ.
