Приходят ко мне недавно две черные девочки (редкость в наших краях), и говорят: "We want to be where you are today, so please help us and subscribe to one or two of these magazines (толстый список суют). We understand that you may not need them (sic!), but we get 100% comission, so your money will help us to acheive our goal - $1000".
Я им:
"Girls, $1000 will not put you where I am today. You'll need a lot more than that."
Они:
"Well, sir, if you could just imagine yourself at our age in our shoes, you would understand how important this first step is for us."
Я смотрю на их shoes и на весь остальной вполне модный прикид и говорю со смехом:
"At your age I had shoes much worse than the ones you have now"
И уже в спину:
"And instead of walking around at night I spent time studying"
Но это я оказался такой стойкий, а до этого у них был вполне удачный поход - я когда список журналов листал, на заднем листочке углядел штук 6 свежих "подписчиков". Им наверняка было пофигу, на что подписываться.
